What You’ll Learn

This two-hour workshop answers two important questions: what are dispositor patterns, and why you should care about them.

The Wizard of Oz was a mysterious and controlling figure behind the curtain through all of Dorothy’s adventures with the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion. So who is the “man behind the curtain” for each sign of astrological chart? The dispositor! (also known as the planetary ruler)

But wait, there’s more! Dispositors can form patterns—so there may be two planets joining forces, or an entire committee behind the scenes directing the show. This is what makes dispositors so critical for chart interpretation.

All astrologers learn that each sign has a corresponding planetary ruler. What many don’t realize is how much that ruler has to say about any planets in its sign. The ruler of a sign may be placed elsewhere, but it still has control over the disposition of planets in its own sign. If you follow this pattern for every planet in the chart, you will have a dispositor tree showing how the planets connect to each other by the ruler. The tree may have a single pathway toward one final planet (the final dispositor) or there may be multiple branches. The pattern for an individual chart represents that individual’s unique “yellow brick road.”

Using numerous chart examples, Enid Newberg will walk you through how dispositors work in practice and how they add to the interpretation. You will learn the different types of dispositor patterns, how to construct a dispositor tree, and simple methods to make effective use of this technique in your interpretations.
