Fundamentals I: Introduction to Astrology – Audit Course

This course is an AUDIT Course. No academic credit will be awarded. If you would like to change your focus to a Certificate/Diploma program, you will need to take the RN101 challenge test to be awarded a credit.

This course is designed to introduce students to the core components of the natal chart and how these individual pieces combine for interpretation. By the end of this course, students will have worked with essential techniques for chart interpretation and can identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches. Students will be able to synthesize these core astrological components into a basic coherent and meaningful interpretation without relying on outside resources.

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to the astronomical underpinnings of the astrological chart
  • Exploration of the interplay between astronomy and the astrological meanings of the planets, including when retrograde; comparing meanings from Hellenistic to modern; and an introduction to the mythology of the planets.
  • Examination of how a planet’s placement in a sign, including elements, modes of action, dispositors, major aspects, and basic dignities and debilities, modify its meaning.
  • Introduction to astrological houses, how their meanings have changed over time, and how they enhance an interpretation.
