In the 1990s, a group of astrologers and translators reignited interest in Hellenistic astrology through the groundbreaking translation efforts of Project Hindsight. This work revitalized the study of western horoscopic astrology by reconnecting it to its ancient roots, which span over 2,000 years. Hellenistic astrology has its origins in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece, but its beginnings remain steeped in mystery. Mythical figures such as Hermes Trismegistus, Asclepius, Nechepso, and Petosiris are often cited as influential forefathers who helped shape its transmission into the modern era.

A central teaching of Hellenistic astrology is the Thema Mundi, the “birth chart of the world.” This symbolic chart serves as a foundational tool, illuminating key concepts such as sect, planetary significations, traditional rulerships, and aspect theory. We will explore the essential principles of Hellenistic astrology through the lens of the Thema Mundi to enrich our understanding of core concepts woven into the knowledge system of ancient astrology.
